So some challenges for using insulation for soundproofing?

Accessibility

Well, first of all there's an accessibility challenge. If you're looking to stop the sound from going into one room into another room again you can fill that wall with foam insulation but it's not going to be the most accessible.

Usually you will use injection foam in there which you can see decent results but again keep in mind the accessibility is not a totally open wall so there's some limitations in there.

Same thing if you look for a lower level and stopping sound to get to a top level or vice versa. Again, that's going to be a closed cavity on an existing building so keep in mind there's limited accessibility.

Physical Barriers

Some of the other challenges are there's physical barriers and here's one thing to keep in mind. There's a continuous physical connection from one room to the other room.

Vibrations, sound and such, they can travel through those. Other things to keep in mind - plumbing, duct work, these are all things that can carry sounds into different areas of the building so keep these challenges in mind.

One other thing I really want you to remember is expectations. So if you're looking for sound proofing that's a relatively high expectation that you probably have so the results that you're looking for it gonna be really high. So if you're looking for something like insulation keeps in mind that's not what it's designed for.

If you're looking for sound proofing and that's the expectation that you have you should really look at some dedicated soundproofing materials. Insulation such as foam can offer sound deadening as a benefit that you often see, kind of like a side effect but keep mind that's not what it was designed for.

So if you're looking for something like that and you have expectations that are really high for soundproofing you're gonna look at some dedicated material.
